Mumbai rains: 300 people stranded in Kalyan rescued

Following incessant rains in the area of Kalyan several people were stranded on July 28. With the coordinated efforts of Indian Army, Navy and the Indian Air Force all were rescued safely.

Mumbai rains: 300 people stranded in Kalyan rescued

Kalyan: Security forces have rescued around 300 people who were stranded across Kalyan following heavy rains and flooding in the region.

Indian Army and Indian Air Force conducted the operation jointly on Saturday.

Meanwhile, IAF with the help of its Mi17 helicopter also airlifted nine personnel stranded on the rooftop of a building.

Indian Army, Navy and Air Force teams provided packed food and water to all the rescued personnel.

In a separate operation, security forces rescued around 115 people who were stranded for hours at a petrol pump which got submerged in water due to the overflowing of Ulhas river.

On the other hand, India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday predicted that Raigad, Thane, Palghar and some parts of Ratnagiri in Maharashtra will witness heavy rainfall at isolated places during the weekend.

While Thane city recorded 160 mm rainfall till 8 am Saturday, Murbad tehsil recorded 332 mm, while Kalyan, Ulhasnagar and Amberanth recorded over 200 mm of rainfall each.

Following incessant rains, Mahalaxmi Express, carrying 700 passengers was held up between Badlapur and Wangani on July 27. All passengers were rescued safely.
