Chandrapur (Maharashtra): Amid the coronavirus-induced lockdown, the plight of poor migrant workers has no parallel as they seem to be worst sufferers of ongoing nationwide lockdown. In this case, a group of workers from Maharashtra were stranded in Telangana border after labour mafia abandoned them at the border.
As per reports, stranded workers in Telangana were dropped at Chandrapur on Maharashtra border and to add to their woes, Rupees 1,000 were collected from them as fare.
As Maharashtra government has not made any arrangement to ferry those workers from Chandrapur, they were compelled to walk hundreds of kilometres to reach their hometowns.
With no arrangements, these migrant workers have no option but to walk their homes in the scorching heat.
After ETV Bharat highlighted the plight of these workers, guardian minister Vijay Wadettiwar has sent vehicles to Telangana border to repatriate the workers.
It is to be noted that, with India completely under lockdown over the novel coronavirus pandemic and no way left to earn money, migrant workers are facing a grim situation. Millions of migrant workers have been left jobless and penniless by the full shutdown, which has sparked an exodus from major cities.
