Shirdi: The coronavirus pandemic and the consequent lockdown have hit small businesses severely across the country.
As a result, many workers have returned to their homes due to lack of work which in turn has knocked down the brick industries as well.
There is a huge brick unit in Pimpalwadi area near Shirdi in the state of Maharashtra. The lockdown has caused a loss of about Rs 4 crore due to the closure of the brick industry.
Additionally, the industry is also suffering because the raw materials now are lying unused for a long time.
The production of bricks begins after Diwali and continues till the month of May. However, the brick-making units are shut since March and brick industries in Pimpalwadi, Nathupatlachi Wadi and Puntamba areas are experiencing difficulties.
About 3,500 workers from Uttar Pradesh were working in Shirdi area and the unit is currently on the verge of closing.
