Confidential data theft

'Confidential data of nearly 91 lakh Indians stolen'

Mumbai (Maharashtra): Yashasvi Yadav, Inspector General, State Cyber cell has informed that confidential data of over 2.91 crore Indian citizens has been stolen. The information has been confirmed by the Dark Web, which is the part of Internet that is most commonly used to leak or steal confidential information.

Dark Web is mostly used for terrorist activities, drug trafficking and online sales, net phishing, illegal arms sales, prostitution, stealing confidential information, as well banking fraud by cyber criminals around the world.

Reportedly, the breached data includes the details of those Indians who had registered themselves in various job portals.

The details stolen include user's credit card details, Aadhar card number, e-mail id, phone number, mobile number etc. These details have been allegedly misused in multiple ways by the cyber criminals.

It is possible that with the help of these confidential details the users who have applied for job vacancies can be lured by fake job letter.

Meanwhile, with the help of the contact numbers and personal details obtained through breaching of data, the users can be asked to provide with their bank account details.

These details can also be used for identity theft, by creating a fake user and access the victims personal details.

Phishing attacks are also possible in which a replica of an original website is created which is a total fake website and the user is made to believe that he is actually accessing the real website. This fake website is then used to procure the user data. Thus, leading to serious cyber crime thefts.
