Transgenders to assist Indore Police through URJA desk

Indore Police has launched URJA Desk where transgenders have been appointed to look into the grievances of women. Through this way, the third gender community will be brought into the mainstream of the society as well as they will help in keeping a check on the rising crime against women.

Indore (MP): In an effort to bring the third gender community into the mainstream of the society, Indore Police has launched URJA Desk service at Vijay Nagar police station and Khajrana police station where two transgenders have been appointed to look into the grievances of women.

Indore Police believes that this initiative will not only help the community to develop its identity but also help in reducing crime against women.

To channelise their efforts towards development, the two transgenders named Sandhya and Gauri help the women in distress by listening to their problems and later counsel them in minor cases related to family issues.

In case of serious issues, the matter is forwarded to senior officials present at the police stations.

Thanking DIG Ruchi Vardhan Mishra and Additional SP Manisha Pathak for connecting them to the mainstream, Sandhya and Gauri said that they will put all possible efforts to fulfill this huge responsibility as it is a unique initiative which is launched for the first time in Madhya Pradesh.

Speaking exclusively with ETV Bharat, Additional SP Manisha Pathak said, "Indore Police believes that every individual in the society has the right to equality and through this initiative the transgender community will not remain neglected. In the coming days, more URJA desks will be formed in different police stations across the state to provide better opportunities to the third gender community as well as to settle family disputes."
