Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Taking a dig at the Kamal Nath-led Congress government in Madhya Pradesh over the escape of four prisoners from the Neemuch district jail, former MP Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan Sunday accused the state government of being in "deep slumber" while convicts "flee jails".
Chouhan was attending a state party meeting ahead of their nationwide membership drive, where he said, "criminals are running around in open, convicts are fleeing jails and the government is in deep slumber."
Referring to the arrest of Union Culture and Tourism Minister Prahlad Patel's son, Prabal Patel, and his nephew, Monu Patel over an attack on five people in MP's Narsinghpur district, Chouhan demanded an independent investigation in the case and accused the Congress government of targeting BJP workers and leaders.
"BJP workers and leaders are being targeted while the criminals are fleeing from jails. But they will not be fazed by this and will continue their struggle", Chouhan said.
Elaborating on BJP's membership drive, Chouhan said, "BJP's best is yet to come. We must strengthen our organization and this membership drive is for that purpose will help us achieve that goal."
BJP state president Rakesh Singh, who was also present in the meeting, said, "In Lok Sabha elections we won 28 out of 29 seats reflective of the faith imposed by the public on BJP. We will ensure that BJP workers reach out to every person and the party's presence is felt across the state."
The BJP, fresh from its victory in the Lok Sabha election, is embarking on a fresh membership drive, with its State units being told to up their game.
