Bhopal: Hitting back at Congress leader Digvijaya Singh's remark against Bharat Ratna for Veer Savarkar, Former Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that he was a revolutionary and has laid down his life for the country.
Chouhan said one who devoted his life and family for the Motherland must get Bharat Ratna.
Singh should visit Andaman Nicobar port Blair once to see the Cellular Jail, where Savarkar was imprisoned. He had served a long jail sentence there.
"Digvijaya is not even the dust of Savarkar's feet. His real brother was detailed in the next cell for many years, but he was not aware and his family too sacrificed their lives for the country," Shivraj added.
Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, Digvijaya said, "Savarkar's life had two aspects. First his participation in the independence struggle and when he came back after seeking an apology (to the British). BJP shall not forget that his name was registered in a conspiracy behind Mahatma Gandhi's murder."
