Jabalpur: A 70-year-old woman and his son allegedly died of hunger at Chandrasekhar ward of Ranjhi in Madhya Pradesh's Jabalpur on Sunday. The deceased, identified as Gomti Cole and her 55-year-old son Narayan Cole were hungry for the last five days.
The incident came to the fore on Sunday when a foul smell started emanating from the house.
According to Narayan Gupta, who lives near the home of the woman, Gomti her son Narayan have been living here for many years. Gomti used to work in people's homes while her son used to do electrical work in the area.
He said that due to the lockdown, the money that Narayan had due to the work stopped, he spent on food, but after having no money, he asked his neighbours for food.
Five days back a person living in the neighbour went to Narayan's house and gave him food and Narayan told him that his health is not good. For two days the door of the room was closed but neighbours realised something was wrong only when a foul smell started coming from inside.
On being informed by the locals, Municipality staff came and recovered the dead body from the house.
Locals said, due to the countrywide lockdown, even Narayan was not getting enough money to get ration for her mother and the woman had not received ration for many months.
