Artillery guns Dhanush, Sharang test-fired at Jabalpur range

Indian Army's artillery guns Dhanush and Sarang were test-fired at the Long Proof Range (LPR) of Ordnance Factory Khamaria in Jabalpur district. Dhanush is a 155mm x 45mm calibre artillery gun and also called the "desi Bofors." The Sarang gun upgraded from 130mm to 155mm calibre has a striking range of 39 kilometres.

Jabalpur (MP): India's first indigenous, long-range artillery gun Dhanush and upgraded 155 mm gun Sharang were successfully test-fired at the Long Proof Range (LPR) of Ordnance Factory Khamaria in Jabalpur district.

According to sources, four rounds were fired from both the guns.

Speaking to media after the testing, Director General Quality Assurance (DGQA), Lt Gen Sanjay Chauhan, said that it's a big day for Long Proof Range as guns like Dhanush and Sarang have been test-fired here.

"Khamaria Long Proof Range is a small range. Although, it's not capable to test-fire medium range guns but today it successfully test-fired guns like Dhanush and Sarang and it's a great achievement. Testing medium and big range guns here will not only cut the expenses but it will also save the time," said Gen Chauhan.

He further said that those guns are manufactured in Jabalpur can be tested here and handed over to the Army without wasting much time.

It is to be noted that Dhanush is a 155mm x 45mm calibre artillery gun and also called the "desi Bofors." It has a striking range of 38 kilometres. The Sarang gun, indigenously upgraded from 130mm to 155mm calibre, has a striking range of 39 kilometres.
