Malappuram (Kerala): Anyone who happens to alight at Tirur Railway Station might feel that they have reached a well-designed garden, full of blooms and herbs. The railway station in Tirur in Malappuram District of Kerala is beautified by the railway officials.
Both sides of all the three platforms in the railway station are full of potted flowering plants and medicinal herbs, in their full bloom. Some are in hanging pots, while some others are arranged aesthetically in the platforms, leaving ample space for the travellers to move about.
As the Railway Ministry also appreciated their efforts, Tirur Railway Station has risen to ‘another level’. Comments and praises for the efforts of the staff here poured in on Railway ministry’s official social media handles.
The ministry had posted the station’s pictures on the official Twitter handle with a caption - ‘Station Beautification: Catch a glimpse of Tirur Railway Station of Southern Railway, where potted plants are placed at station.’
Many people also tweeted pictures revealing the pathetic state of many other railway stations in different parts of the country calling for the ministry’s attention. A few people opined that there should be a survey to find the best station in the country. In addition, many have also stated that railway stations should be green akin to environmental conservation.
Tirur railway station has significance in the history of the Indian Freedom Movement with the Wagon Tragedy incident during the Malabar rebellion in 1921. The station has a fresh look now with potted flowering plants and a garden-like appearance.
