Numbers don't lie: "The Kerala Story" makers revise missing girls no to 3 from 32k

The makers of the movie 'The Kerala Story' changed the description of the trailer on YouTube a few days before its release, after the makers ran into controversy for claiming that 32,000 women left the state to join the terrorist organisation ISIS.

Hyderabad: The Kerala Story's latest trailer description on the Sunshine Picture's official YouTube page claims the story to be "a compilation of the true stories of three young girls from different parts of Kerala... Thousands of Innocent women have been systematically converted, radicalized and their lives destroyed..."

According to the description of the film's teaser released in November 2022, the film was a story about "Heartbreaking and gut-wrenching stories of 32000 females in Kerala!" Post the controversy surrounding the film, its makers changed the trailer description on Tuesday.

The film ran into controversy after its trailer claimed 32,000 women from the state of Kerala joined ISIS. The CPM-led LDF and the opposition UDF demanded a ban on its screening, while the Indian Union Muslim League, the Muslim Youth League, announced a reward of Rs 1 crore to anyone showing up with evidence of 32,000 girls converting to Islamic State members.

Pratheesh Viswanath, the founder of Hindu Seva Kendra, responded by announcing to reward to anyone who proves that no one from Kerala has gone to Syria to join ISIS. PK Firoz, MYL state general secretary, claimed that the makers changed the trailer due to opposition from Kerala against Sangh Parivar’s propaganda.

Actor-Lawyer C Shukkur posted on Facebook that he would reward Rs 11 lakh to the one who names at least 32 Women from Kerala who were converted and forced to join ISIS. MV Govindan, the CPM state secretary, had alleged that the film was an attempt by the BJP government and RSS to poison the minds of the people.

The producer of the film, Vipul Amrutlal Shah trashed all the allegations and claims that the film was being funded by the BJP saying, "They have nothing to do with any political party" and anything spoken about the film without viewing it is just a "conjecture".
