Kasaragod: The foetus, delivered by the minor girl from Thaikkadappurath in Nileshwaram, has been unearthed from the backyard of their house by the forensic team and sent for detailed examination. The investigation team led by Forensic Surgeon Shanth S Nair, with Pariyaram Medical College in Kannur, unearthed the foetus, here, on Friday.

The sixteen-year-old girl, who was repeatedly being sexually abused by her own father and other men, multiple times in the past two years, delivered the foetus after an illegal abortion.

The incident came to light on July 19 after the girl’s maternal uncle made a police complaint suspecting sexual abuse to the girl and the police started investigations.

Father of the minor girl, who is the main accused in the case, was granted on police custody by the Hosdurg Judicial Magistrate II court. In police interrogations, the accused revealed that the foetus has been buried after an illegal abortion. The investigation team had sought the custody of the girl’s father suspecting prima facie that more persons are involved in the repeated sexual abuses on the minor girl.

Initially, the investigation team had stated that the man had not taken money to ‘hand over’ the girl to others for sexual abuse to other men. However, when Sherif, a native of Kanhangad South who runs a gym in Padannakkad, Kasaragod and Ahmed from Thaikkadappuram, who runs a tyre shop in Padannakkad were arrested, the police suspected money dealings in the case. With this, the investigation team sought the Court to grant custody of the father of the victim for further interrogation.

Seven persons have been listed as accused in the case. The Police have already recorded the arrest of six of them, including the girl’s father. The police investigation team is currently on the lookout for Quintal Mohammed, also a native of Padannakkad. The team has already received hints that Mohammed has fled to Karnataka and remains in hiding there.
