Karnataka polls 2023: Eshwarappa's son misses ticket as BJP announces candidates for remaining two seats

Former Deputy Chief Minister Eshwarappa's son K E Kantesh did not find mention among the list of candidates announced by the saffron party in the upcoming state elections.

Bengaluru: The BJP on Wednesday released its fourth and final list on Wednesday, the penultimate day of filing nominations for the upcoming Karnataka Assembly elections. The BJP named its candidates for the two remaining constituencies- Shivamogga and Manvi. Former Deputy Chief Minister Eshwarappa's son K E Kantesh did not find mention in the list.

While Channabasappa was named as the BJP candidate from Shivamogga, BV Nayak has been given the ticket from Manvi, a constituency reserved for ST. The Hindutva party has announced candidates for all 224 seats in the assembly elections. The last date to file the nominations is April 20. The state will go to polls on May 10, the results of which will be declared on May 13.

Eshwarappa who had corruption charges against him recently announced his retirement from electoral politics. Ahead of the Assembly elections, the five-time MLA from Shivamogga constituency had requested the BJP leadership not to consider him for the upcoming elections. However, he had requested the BJP high command to field his son from the Shivamogga constituency.

Senior BJP MLC Ayanur Manjunath, who was denied a ticket from Shivamogga, quit the party on Wednesday and joined the JD(S). Manjunath was subsequently named as the JD(S) candidate from Shivamogga. Former Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa's son, BY Vijayendra has been named as the BJP candidate from Shikaripur seat. Yediyurappa quit active politics ahead of the Karnataka polls.

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai filed his second nomination for the upcoming polls on Wednesday. Bommai took out a grand road show which had BJP national president JP Nadda, BJP state president Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP Prahlad Joshi, and minister BC Patil, in attendance. Actor Kichcha Sudeep who had earlier announced that he would be campaigning for his 'Mama' Bommai was also present.
