Mangaluru: Diocese of Mangalore through Canara Organization for Development & Peace (CODP) distributed educational aid to needy Catholic students at Bishop House Mangalore on Saturday.
Peter Paul Saldanha, Bishop of Mangalore, gave the cheques worth Rs 2, 57 500 to 53 students in the first phase. Bishop in his address to the beneficiaries said, that Pope Francis called poor as, “our teachers” who teach us how to face life and live a simple life.
"Jesus called every Christian the "light of the world" and "salt of the earth". We are called to share our resources with the needy and thus we can become the light of the world and salt of the earth", he said.
The awareness session on Coronavirus and Cancer disease was led by CODP Sparsha Programme coordinator Shilpa D Souza and Director CODP, Fr Oswald Monteiro. Fr Oswald also urged all the Catholic students to avail government scholarships and enroll their name under Ayushman Bharath card which benefits both APL and BPL cardholders.
Fr Victor Vijay Lobo, Procurator and PRO of the diocese, Fr Richard D Souza, Director Canara Communication Centre and others were present at the occasion.
