Dharwad doctor selected as medical officer for FIFA World Cup

A Dharwad-based doctor in sports medicine has been selected for the role of a medical officer by the Federation Internationale de Football Association.

Dharwad: Dr Kiran Kulkarni, a Dharwad-based doctor, in sports medicine has been selected for the role of a medical officer by the Federation Internationale de Football Association. He will take on the responsibility for the 2022-FIFA World Cup pre-qualifiers match (qualifying round) scheduled for October 7 and 12 in Qatar.

Kulkarni will supervise the matches of Asia Zone, which will be played between Iraq and Lebanon in Doha, Qatar on October 7, and between Iran and South Korea in Tehran, Iran on October 12. His duty is to oversee medical issues and check the medical aspects of players, staff and others.

He would also work as a doping control officer & infection control officer. Dr Kulkarni has also worked as a medical officer for many international tournaments in the past.

"I have been appointed as medical, doping control & infection control officer for two qualifying rounds Qatar FIFA World 2022. I had also served as a medical & doping control officer for the International tournaments of the Asian Football Confederation. I had also worked at Goa sector in 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup which was held in India. Presently, I am working as a consultant in sports medicine at RxDx Samanvay hospital, Bengaluru," he said.
