Bengaluru: A 15-year-old minor girl has been arrested on the charges of brutally killing her father and setting the body on fire with the help of her male friend in Bengaluru on Sunday morning.
The incident took place at his residence in Rajajinagar of West Bengaluru.
The deceased has been identified as Jai Kumar (41), a businessman, who owns an apparel shop, situated near his residence, Nakshatra. He mainly belongs to Rajasthan.
According to the police, the daughter was angry with her father after he had beaten her over having a relationship with the boy and also for becoming a drug-addict.
The matter came to light when the neighbours noticed smoke spewing out of the victim's house at around 10:30 am. They informed the fire control room about the incident. As soon as, the fire tenders reached the spot to douse off the flames, Kumar was found lying at the bathroom floor, with burn injuries all over the body.
Nobody else seemed to be in the house at the time. After a while, the girl turned up and told the police, that she had gone to have breakfast at a relative's house because her mother and younger brother were away in Puducherry to attend a wedding.
However, after further questioning, she changed her statement to say that she came to know about the incident after returning from her morning walk. This made the police suspicious and finally on Monday, the daughter confessed her crime.
According to police, the girl had taken advantage of the other family members' absence to add sedatives to her father's glass of milk. As he began losing his consciousness, she and the co-accused allegedly stabbed him several times with a knife.
Police also claimed that they then poured petrol on his body and set it afire. The alleged attempt to destroy the evidence, however, went in vain.
The body of the victim has been sent for autopsy and further investigation on the matter is underway.
