Palamu (Jharkhand): Jharkhand police have arrested the leader and two members of a gang that carried out thefts in Bihar, West Bengal, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh. The gang reportedly targeted government offices, banks, warehouses and grain warehouses, police sources said. It has been found that the gang operated from Aurangabad in Bihar and Hariharganj in Palamu of Jharkhand.
The gang targeted godowns in Hariharganj of Jharkhand's Palamu and Amba area of Bihar few days back and huge stocks of grain were stolen. A special team of Palamu police was engaged to probe into the matter.
Headed by Hariharganj police station in-charge Sudama Kumar Das, the team raided Dumri area of Aurangabad in Bihar and arrested gang leader Anil Paswan. Later, Subedar Chowdhary and Anand Saav, who procured the goods through the gang, were also arrested by the police. The two are residents of Dumri in Aurangabad, Bihar, police said.

Hariharganj police station in-charge Ram Kumar Das said that Anil Paswan ran an inter-state gang that included five to six members. "The gang has carried out many thefts in Bihar's Aurangabad, Kolkata, and Uttar Pradesh. They executed 14 thefts in the Jharkhand-Bihar border area. Of which, five incidents were carried out in Hariharganj of Palamu, five in Dev police station area of Aurangabad in Bihar and two in Amba police station area," Das said.
Das said that Paswan is involved in many major incidents in Palamu. "In 2020, Rs 23 lakh was stolen from an ATM in Hariharganj and in 2021, 80 mobile phones were stolen from a shop in Hariharganj. Paswan has been the mastermind of both these cases," police said.
