Ranchi (Jharkhand): Attacking the state government for allotting a separate Namaz room for Muslim legislators, former state Congress president, Dr Ajoy Kumar has said that either the allotment should be cancelled or a prayer place should be given to all religions.
In a letter written to Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Kumar had stated that that religion and politics should not be mixed adding that religion has been playing an important role in politics for a long time but political governance and religious practices are two different aspects.
He further stated that the Assembly is a temple of democracy where all MLAs, ministers discuss issues related to the people and the state.
Further elaborating on the religious diversity in the country, Kumar stated that people of all the religions here live in unity, however, if a particular political party supports a particular religion, it may create unrest.
Earlier, BJP also created a ruckus over the allotment of a room for offering Namaz and also moved an adjournment motion demanding cancellation of allotment of a room in the Assembly for offering Namaz.
A public interest litigation (PIL) was also filed in the High Court of Jharkhand on Tuesday challenging the order, claiming that it has set a wrong precedence.
In view of the opposition, the Speaker has formed a 7-member all-party committee to settle the dispute. This committee will submit its report within 45 days.
