Ganderbal: Ban on swimming in Nala-e-Sindh reamains on paper

Locals say tourists visiting Kangan and Sonamarg do not follow government orders. The last two days of the week in Sonamarg are crowded with local tourists who take selfies on the banks of the Nala-e-Sindh, due to which there is a risk of drowning.

Ganderbal: A continuing disregard of government direction banning swimming and bathing in Nala-e-Sindh has resulted in a rise in the number deaths due to drowning in Ganderbal.

Six teenagers drowned this year while swimming in Nala-e-Sindh in Ganderbal. Despite a ban imposed by the district administration, the practice is unabated.

The sub-divisional administration of Kangan had on June 11 asked tourists visiting Kangan and Sonamarg to refrain from bathing, swimming and taking selfies near Nala-e-Sindh for their safety. An advisory was also issued in this matter.

Locals say tourists visiting Kangan and Sonamarg do not follow government orders. The last two days of the week in Sonamarg are crowded with local tourists who take selfies on the banks of the Nala-e-Sindh, due to which there is a risk of drowning.

The district administration has demanded SSP Ganderbal and SDM Kungan to take action against those heading flouting the rules in swimming in Nala-e-Sindh. The administration has sought for police security deployment at these tourist spots to prevent any further untoward incident.
