Bettiah: At least five persons died within 36 hours under suspicious circumstances in the Mathiya village located in the Lauriya police station limits in Bettiah, Bihar. The family members of the deceased said that the deaths have occurred after they took alcohol and marijuana.
There is panic in the village due to the death of these people one after the other. The family members have cremated all the bodies. On receiving the information about the deaths, the medical team has reached the spot and started investigating into the cause of death.
'Death due to drinking poisonous liquor': The elder brother of the deceased Pradeep said that his "brother drank liquor in the village, his health deteriorated and then he died". Another person named Manish also allegedly died due to drinking liquor. Suresh Chaudhary, Shiv Ram, Narsingh Shah all died under suspicious circumstances. Most of the deceased are youngsters.
What do the doctors say?: Additional CS Dr. Murtaza Ansari has said: "Two people died due to consumption of drugs. The family members have cremated all the bodies. The medical team is preparing the investigation report of all the deaths".
In October last year, a Bihar hooch tragedy took place in Chapra in which 37 lives were lost while the unofficial toll was put at 67. These deaths took place in Siwan, Saran and Gopalganj. Locals alleged that the police and administration tried to compel the victims' families to change their statements.
