Kulgam (Jammu-Kashmir): An unidentified militant was killed in an ongoing encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam district on Sunday. The gunfight began at the Munand area of Kulgam. With this, a total of 101 militants have been killed this year in Jammu & Kashmir, according to the police.
According to a press release by the police, based on specific input about the presence of terrorists in village Sursano Kulgam, a cordon and search operation was launched by Kulgam Police and 34 RR during which, the terrorists hiding in the orchids started firing indiscriminately upon the security forces, which was retaliated leading to an encounter. In the ensuing encounter, a militant was killed whose identity is yet to be ascertained. Incriminating materials including arms and ammunition were recovered from the dead body. All the recovered material has been taken into case records for further investigation and to probe their complicity in other terror crimes.

"Encounter has started at Munand area of #Kugam. Police and security forces are on the job. Further details shall follow," J-K police tweeted.
On July 24, two unidentified militants were killed and a soldier was injured in an encounter that broke out between militants and security forces in Shokbaba forest in the Sumblar area of Bandipora.
