Delegation of 15 foreign envoys met political leaders from Jammu and Kashmir including Ghulam Hasan Mir, Altaf Bukhari, Shoaib Iqbal Lone, Hilal Ahmed Shah, Noor Mohd Sheikh, Abdul Majid Padder, Abdul Rahim Rather and Rafi Ahmed Mir on Thursday.

Jammu and Kashmir is now corruption free, says Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi

Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said here on Thursday that politicians who have always kept their personal interests above that of Jammu and Kashmir have been sidelined and now there is a corruption-free environment in J&K.

"It is good that Jammu and Kashmir is moving towards development. Corruption had hampered development in Kashmir in past. Jammu and Kashmir has a corruption-free environment now. Politicians who used to keep personal interest over Kashmir's interest are now sidelined," said Naqvi.

Srinagar: US Ambassador to India Kenneth I Juster along with envoys from 15 other countries arrived here on a two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, the first visit by diplomats since the abrogation of the erstwhile state's special status in August last year.

The Delhi-based envoys arrived here by a special chartered flight at Srinagar's technical airport were top officials from the newly carved out union territory received them.

Later in the day, they would be going to Jammu, the winter capital of the newly created Union Territory, for an overnight stay.

Officials said that they will meet Lt Governor G C Murmu as well as civil society members.

Besides the US, the delegation will include diplomats from Bangladesh, Vietnam, Norway, Maldives, South Korea, Morocco, and Nigeria, among others.
