Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir): A militant was neutralised on Wednesday in an encounter between security forces and militants here at Wagoora in the Naugam area of Srinagar. "Srinagar Encounter Update: 01 unidentified terrorist killed. Search going on. Further details shall follow (sic)," tweeted Kashmir Zone Police. Police identified the dead militant as Uzair Ashraf Dar. He was a resident of Shopian. They recovered one pistol, one ammunition magazine, six rounds and two grenades.
The encounter broke out between militants and security forces at Wagoora late on Tuesday night. According to sources, a joint team of police and CRPF had launched a search operation in Wagoora area. They opened fire on the security personnel when they surrounded the suspect.

Earlier on June 12, five people -- two policemen and three civilians -- lost their lives in a terrorist attack in Sopore. Two other police personnel were also injured in the militant attack, which was carried out by Lashkar-e-Taiba, according to statements given by the Kashmir IG Vijay Kumar to news agencies. "At around 12 pm, unidentified militants fired at the police party at main market Sopore. During the attack, civilians were injured. He has been shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment," a police official said. He further said, "the condition of the injured is stated to be stable. Meanwhile, search operations have been launched in the area to nab the attacker," the IG had said
