Srinagar: A civilian, who was injured in a ceasefire violation by Pakistani troops along the Line of Control in Tangdhar sector of Jammu and Kashmir last week, died at a hospital here on Thursday morning, police said.
Police said, 60-year-old civilian, identified as Mohammed Yaqoob Mir of Kachadia Bagh Bella village in the Karnah sector of Kupwara district, succumbed in Srinagar, a week after the incident took place.
Mir, who was undergoing treatment at the SKIMS hospital here for the past six days, breathed his last early this morning, a police official said.
He said Mir was one of the six people injured in the Pakistani firing in Tangdhar sector on August 7. "Another civilian injured in the same incident had expired last week", police said.
In the day-long ceasefire violation that took place almost a week ago, one civilian died while six were injured and over half a dozen houses were damaged in Tangdhar sector. Pakistan had resorted to indiscriminate firing and shelling at defence and civilian facilities in Mendhar and Balakote sectors of Poonch district. In Kashmir division also Pakistan resorted to unprovoked ceasefire violations by using small arms and mortars in Naugam, Tangdhar and Machhal sectors of Kupwara district.
A total of 24 civilians have been killed and over 100 injured in more than 2,720 ceasefire violations by Pakistan on the LoC so far this year.
