5-6 kg IED recovered in J&K's Pulwama, 1 apprehended

Pulwama (J&K): Security forces on Sunday recovered an improvised explosive device (IED) in the Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir after apprehending and questioning a terrorist associate.

Kashmir Zone police in a tweet said they recovered around 5-6 kg IED thus averting a major tragedy. "Pulwama Police averted a major tragedy by apprehending a terror associate Ishfaq Ahmed Wani R/O Arigam Pulwama and recovering an IED (approx 5-6Kgs) on his disclosure. Case registered and investigation started," the tweet by Kashmir Zone police read.

The recovery is substantial since only two days ago, five Army soldiers were killed when militants cornered by the troops triggered an IED explosion in a densely forested area in Jammu's Rajouri district. As already reported by ETV Bharat, security agencies in Kashmir are facing a new challenge in the shape of lone-wolf terrorism where militants who aren't formally part of any organisation carry out such attacks making it difficult to have any surveillance on them.

The valley is also set to host the G20 Tourism Meet later this month due to which police and other agencies are making all attempts to ensure safety and heightened security in the region. In March, J&K police had claimed that Pakistan was using drones to drop money and IEDs in Jammu and Kashmir to keep militancy alive in the restive region.

J&K DGP Dilbag Singh had, on March 5, said, "These days cash is also being sent through drones and also along with IEDs by Pakistan-based agencies. "Narcotics and weapons together are being smuggled from Pakistan now. These weapons go to terrorists & proceeds from sale of narcotics used in terrorist activities. "G20 events are being organised in Jammu & Kashmir, and we are making all possible security arrangements for the smooth conduct of these events," he had said.
