Shimla: In the newly constituted National Medical Commission to regulate medical education in the country, the doctors of Devbhoomi Himachal are in a significant representation. From Friday 25 September, the Medical Council of India, or MCI, has been replaced by the National Medical Commission. Last year, the National Medical Commission Bill was passed by both houses of parliament. The National Medical Commission i.e. NMC will prepare all policies related to medical education and medicine in the country.
Doctors who belong to Himachal Pradesh have considerable representation in this commission. In the commission, Dr Mahesh Verma, a renowned name in Dental Medicine has been included, others include Prof. Dr Surendra Kashyap of Himachal, Prof. Dr Raj Bahadur, Prof. Dr Jagat Ram and Prof. Dr Randeep Guleria. Not only this, Prof. Dr Vinod Paul, member (health) of Niti Aayog, who has announced the members of the commission, is also from Himachal.
Dr Vinod Paul belongs to district Kangra. Dr Surendra Kashyap is a resident of Bhalavag, a small village in Shimla district. Dr Jagtram is from Sirmour district and Dr Rajbahadur is from Una district. Dr Mahesh Verma hails from Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh. They have been included as members of the National Medical Commission.

All of them have a significant contribution to the medical field. Their experience will contribute a lot in making policies related to medical education. Apart from this, Dr Mahesh Verma, a big name in dental medicine in the country, has also been included as a member of the National Medical Commission. Dr Mahesh Verma is a world-renowned dental practitioner with BC Roy honour. Dr Mahesh Verma hails from Bilaspur district of Himachal. However, he studied dental medicine from Trivandrum.
Dr Guleria hails from Kangra district and is considered the father of Pulmonary Medicine in the country. He is the director of AIIMS. His father Dr JS Guleria has also been the Dean of AIIMS Delhi. Dr Jagataram is a world-renowned eye doctor. Professor Surendra Kashyap is currently the Vice-Chancellor of the Atal Medical University in Himachal and is a noted Pulmonary specialist of the country. Dr Rajbahadur is a noted orthopaedic surgeon. Similarly, Mahesh Verma belongs to the district Bilaspur and has received the country's highest Dr BC Roy honour for his remarkable contribution in the field of dentistry.
