Sunder Nagar: With the temperature dipping in northern parts of India, the famous Kamrunag Lake, situated in Mandi of Himachal Pradesh, has frozen.

The lake, situated at a height of 3,334 metre, is an oasis for a spiritually-parched soul. People from different parts of the world come to visit it every year. The lake has uncountable wealth stored in its bed as the devotees offer riches to appease the deities.

It's believed that no one can actually steal the wealth as the deities guard it and people who attempted to steal it died soon after or lost their sight. The unfathomable nature of Kamrunag Lake has remained a mystery for decades. Thieves tried to rob off the lake of its underlying wealth many a time but they did not succeed, say the locals.

Lakhs of people visit the lake every year but the year of 2020 was different as not many came to visit it due to the on-going coronavirus crisis.

Interacting with ETV Bharat, a young girl said she always wanted to come here to see the lake as she had heard lots of stories related to it by her elders in the family.

"It's very cold at the moment and the lake is also frozen...it seems we have made a mistake to have come here during the winters," she said, adding that they had to come to Kamrunag Lake as they have tremendous faith in it.

Local pradhan, Prakash Chand, also expressed similar views and cautioned that people must not visit the lake during the months of December and January as it's very cold during the time.

"It could be dangerous also as people got killed in the past because of the very cold weather conditions," he added.
