Karnal: Taking cognizance of the 'lathicharge' on farmers in Karnal, the National Human Rights Commission issued notice to District Deputy Commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav on Friday. HRC asked Yadav to respond on reasons for vandalism and lathicharge on farmers.
Sources said Yadav responded that he was given one month time to respond to the notice. "We will prepare the report and submit it before the HRC within the stipulated time."
Haryana Congress leaders' delegation including party in-charge Vivek Bansal, Pradesh Congress Committee Chief Kumari Selja, MLA Kiran Chowdhary, MP Deepender Hooda and Captain Ajay Yadav approached the NHRC on Tuesday to submit a memorandum on the incident. They demanded suspension of Karnal Sub Divisional Magistrate Ayush Sinha whose 'hit protesting farmers on their heads' order raked up controversy.

Farmers in Karnal protested against Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar demanding repeal of the three farm laws on August 28.The protestors were lathicharged by police forces leading to severe injuries to several protestors and the death of one farmer. While tension escalated, Sinha's video did rounds on social media.
Sinha was later transferred and posted as Additional Secretary to the Government of Haryana, Citizen Resources Information Department (CRID). Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala had assured that action will be taken against the IAS officer.
