Ahmedabad: The last day of the final session of the 14th Gujarat legislative assembly was action-filled, with 11 Congress MLAs suspended after they demanded a discussion on the spread of the lumpy skin disease virus in cattle.

In the first half of the day, the Congress contingent had walked out of the assembly after its MLA Baldevji Thakor proposed a discussion on reservation quotas for other backward classes (OBCs) in panchayat bodies, and this was rejected by the Speaker. On Thursday, the state legislative assembly passed three bills, including the Gujarat National Law University (Amendment) Act, 2022, widening the purview of the law university.

The Congress MLAs demanded a discussion on OBC reservations. When speaker Nima Acharya turned down the request, the Congress MLAs rushed into the well of the house and Thakore rushed toward law minister Rajendra Trivedi. He was intercepted by the assembly security. Later, the Congress MLAs walked out.
