Ahmedabad: While there has been a spurt in Mucormycosis cases due to the coronavirus pandemic, lack of knowledge in some people has resulted in the spread of fungal infection. In many cases, the use of cow dung and urine has increased the severity of the infectious disease.
Recently many cases of Mucormycosis have been reported from various hospitals in districts of Gujarat because of fungal infection.
It has come to light that many people are using cow dung as a therapy for coronavirus infection.
Reacting to this, former president of Ahmedabad Medical Association Dr. Mona Desai said the applying of cow dung on the body as therapy of coronavirus can lead to fungal infection and increase the possibility of Mucormycosis.
"Excreta of animals such as cow dung and urine contain a huge number of bacteria and microbes which when enters the body can make any infectious disease more severe. No research has proved that applying cow dung to the body increases immunity. Never can the cow dung and urine increase immunity. And, hence, such therapy is bogus and untrustworthy," said Dr. Desai.
Cow dung is being applied to the body of coronavirus patients in Swaminarayan Gurukul situated on the SG Highway in Ahmedabad which the doctors have rubbished as a totally wrong method of treating the deadly disease. In fact, the doctors say this is leading to fungal infection among patients.
