New Delhi: Mrinal Bora and Manjori Das, students from the prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), had to run for their lives after a masked mob attacked them with iron rods, sticks and other sharp weapons inside the campus on Sunday night.
The duo were among various victims who suffered injuries in the attack. ETV Bharat traced them in an undisclosed location in the national capital and took first-hand information of the incident that shocked the entire nation.
"I had to run for my life. There was a time when me and few of my friends had to hide in the jungle to save ourselves from the violent mob. We stopped breathing as well so that the mob could not trace us," said Mrinal, who is in a state of shock after the incident.

"It was around 4:30 pm on Sunday, we were protesting the ongoing registration. The ABVP supporters were also there. Suddenly they picked up a quarrel with us. We tried to avoid that. Later after some time, when we went to the Godavari area of our campus, a mob started pelting stones on us. We ran from there. After some time, we saw a huge mob with iron rods, hockey sticks, and other sharp weapons beating students," recalled Mrinal.
"In the melee, I fell down on the road and they started thrashing me. I was saved from the violent mob by my friends," said Bora.
He alleged that the entire incident took place in the presence of Delhi police, who in fact, provided protection to the goons.
"When the goons attacked us, the Delhi police and its Rapid Action Force (RSF) were present there but they did nothing to save us and stop the mob from vandalising," said Bora.
Echoing similar views, Manjori Das, a masters student in JNU said that the goons even attacked and vandalised the girls' wing of the University.
"They (the goons) did not even spare the female section of the University. In fact, they attacked the targeted people. They attacked those who are involved in activism...," said Manjori who hails from Kolkata.
After the incident last night, both Mrinal and Manjori took shelter at their friend's house in Delhi, and are now scared to return to the University campus.
