New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended greetings on 'Guru Purnima' on Sunday, saying it is the day to honour the 'gurus' who make our lives meaningful.
"Many wishes on Guru Purnima. Today is a special day to honour the gurus who make life meaningful," the prime minister said in a tweet.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also extended wishes on the occasion.

Meanwhile, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu had on Saturday conveyed gratitude and indebtedness to 'Gurus' (teachers) including veteran BJP leader LK Advani who shaped his perspectives and life at various stages of his long journey.
"Writing on Facebook, Naidu recalled the mentoring and counselling received from 57 'Gurus' including late Shri Tenneti Viswanatham, a freedom fighter and a leading politician during his early political life and Shri Advani later," a press release from the Vice President's Secretariat, said.
The Vice President paid glowing tributes to the role of 'Guru' in the holistic development of 'shishyas' including character building in the Indian tradition of 'Guru-Shishya Parampara', Naidu urged the teachers to impart education with a personal touch in the present era of technology.
Guru Purnima is marked on the full-moon day of the Hindu month Ashadha and is celebrated by the Hindus, Jains, and Buddhists to honour one's 'gurus' or teachers who guide us through our lives towards the path of enlightenment.
