New Delhi : Heavy rains lashed out in the national capital on Monday with the minimum temperature settling at 19.3 degree Celsius - five degrees lower than what it normally is at this time of the year. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), rainfall is expected to persist in Delhi for the next two to three days, followed by thunderstorms and strong gusts.
In its recently updated weather forecast for the next 7 days, the IMD for Tuesday has predicted a cloudy sky with light rain and thundershowers with gusty winds. The minimum temperature will be settling at 19.0 degree Celsius and the maximum at 28 degree Celsius, one degree lower than Monday.
Delhi’s maximum temperature on Monday had been 26.1 degrees, which was 13 degrees below normal for this time of the year. It was the lowest maximum Delhi has recorded on May 1 in at least 13 years.
The weather body has predicted the rainfall will continue in the national capital for the next two days owing to western disturbances. According to the report of the weather body, the rains and thunderstorms will continue for the next few days in the states of North India, Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh. Along with this, an alert has been issued for snowfall along with rain in Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, and Himachal Pradesh.

In the month in which people are troubled by the stinging heat, the sudden rains in Delhi and in other parts of the country, the temperature has come down due to the continuous rains in many states, due to which people have got relief.
With this sudden drop in temperature, the air quality has also improved in the capital. The Commission for Air Quality Management has said that the rains have brought down temperatures even as pollution in Delhi from January to April has come down like never before in the last seven years.
