New Delhi: Congress party on Thursday made a scathing attack on Central government for the GDP fall by 23.9 percent in the first quarter, demanding an immediate resignation of Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
Congress Chief Spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala accused the Center of imposing economic anarchy in the country by taking decisions like Demonetization and GST, which led India into a deep economic abyss.
"GDP got down by almost 24 percent. Why should Nirmala Sitharaman remain as Finance Minister? She should resign herself or Prime Minister should dismiss her immediately," said Surjewala.
Criticising the government, Surjewala stated, "There are dark clouds of economic decay all around us. Lives, livelihoods and jobs have been ravaged. Businesses and small, medium industries lie dilapidated. The economy stands destroyed as GDP has been razed and mowed down. India is being pushed towards a 'Financial Emergency'."
He also took a jibe at PM Modi, "By feeding peacocks and changing clothes three times a day or creating photo opportunities, Modi won't be able to bring India out of the economic abyss." He also cited the National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB) data, which stated that 14,019 unemployed people committed suicide in the year 2019.
"This government is drunk with arrogance and is annihilating India's economy, enterprise of the industry, toiling labour of the farmer and aspiration of youth with the sole objective to remain in power at any cost," said the Congress leader.
He further alleged, "Modi government has plundered the economy in last six years by its 'Acts of Frauds'. The government has now described its criminal ineptitude and culpable incompetence as an 'Act of God'. Sadly, this is the only government in past 73 years which blames God for its own frauds and bluster."

He accused the ruling party for bringing in a situation of "complete collapse of confidence" in government as 40 crore Indians are being pushed below poverty line, 80 lakh people were forced to withdraw Rs 30,000 crore from their EPFO accounts, two crore salaried people lost their jobs between April to July, majority of 6.3 crore MSMEs are lying shut and the GDP growth has fallen down by 24 percent.
Congress also alleged that government is "running scared" of answering relevant questions pertaining to the brazen transgressions by China onto Indian territory, GDP fall, suicides and job losses. Surjewala asserted that Congress will fight tooth and nail against the government's decision to suspend the question hour during Parliament session.
"They want to cripple and finish Parliament and the decision is a proof of that conspiracy. The NDA ministers are telling white lies. Congress will oppose this decision both inside as well as outside the Parliament," said Surjewala.
Earlier today, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also released his video on the ill-impacts of demonetization over Indian economy, alleging that the move was an attack on the unorganized sector to destroy informal economy of the country and to favour the rich businessmen by waiving off their debts.
