Delhi school gets bomb threat; likely to be hoax

The incident was reported at Amrita School at Delhi's Pushp Vihar and the cops were on their toes checking the entire school premises for exploslives.

New Delhi: A Delhi school got a bomb threat via e-mail on Tuesday, officials said. The school was evacuated immediately after receiving the threat mail. and the police wee informed. The Delhi Police, bomb detection and disposal squad and ambulances have reached the spot and a campus combing operation was undertaken.

The police have launched an investigation into the incident to identify the mailer. No explosives were found during the campus search and the cops were expected to declare it as a hoax alert after they are convinced with their search operation. The incident was reported at Amrita School at Delhi's Pushp Vihar.

Chandan Choudhary, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) said, "An email was received today (Tuesday) morning at 6.33 am at Amrita School, Saket, regarding a bomb threat. A thorough checking of the school has been done through Bomb Disposal Team but nothing was found." A teacher of the school said all students were safely evacuated and sent home with their parents.

"I was conducting the morning assembly in class around 8 am when the teachers were informed to stop all activities and safely lead the students out of the school building," she said. Parents rushed to the school after receiving a message on the school WhatsApp group to receive their children as soon as possible.

The parent of a UKG student said that she received a message on the WhatsApp group around 8.30 am. "We were not told about any bomb threat... It was only after reaching the school that I came to know about it. My child is safe. But the question is who is sending such emails? Fortunately, nothing was found but what is the guarantee that our children will be safe?"

She said her elder daughter studies in The Indian School, also in South Delhi, which has received bomb threats at least twice. "It has been days since the threats, still they don't know who was behind it," she said.

Earlier in April, Delhi Public School, Mathura Road received a hoax bomb threat through email. The school was evacuated and the Delhi Police started a search operation. However, the DCP South Rajesh Deo later clarified that there was no threat to the school premises and the email was a hoax.

In the same month, the Indian School in Delhi's Sadiq Nagar received a bomb threat, the second time since November 2022. The school was evacuated as per protocol. The bomb squad and other agencies searched the premises for explosive substances. Later on, the mail was declared to be a hoax.

In January, the Karnataka police identified a young school student who was responsible for sending a bomb threat mail to a private school in Karnataka. According to the police, the accused was a student of a private school. He had sent the threat e-mail of planting a bomb in the school without being aware of the consequences.

A senior police personnel who was investigating the case said the offence was serious in nature but the boy had engaged in the misdeed out of his ignorance. He further said that the police will send the report of the investigation to the juvenile board and investigate it according to its instructions.
