New Delhi: The Delhi Cabinet which met on Saturday under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has approved the formation of the Delhi Board of Education (DBE).
Addressing a press conference through a video link after the Cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Kejriwal said that the Cabinet in Saturday’s meeting gave its nod to the DBE.
Chief Minister Kejriwal said that the whole nation is seeing the revolutionary changes which took place in Delhi’s education system in the past six years.

"We spend 25 per cent of the state budget on the education system each year. Good infrastructure, labs and auditoriums have been constructed. Even the government schools have been transformed. We send our teachers and principals to Cambridge, Singapore, Finland, Canada and the US for training on a large scale," he stated.
Kejriwal said that students are sent abroad to participate in the Maths and Chemistry Olympiads. Referring to the power of principals, he said that earlier there was a huge influence of the state government in the Directorate of Education but in the current government the power of principals has been increased. The government has also increased the funds of principals from Rs 5,000 to Rs 50,000.
"The powers of principals have been enhanced as they can directly appoint teachers in their sessions without any delay. The state government has also appointment Estate officers in schools and introduced a happiness curriculum and entrepreneurship. These measures have resulted in the better performances of Delhi government schools who are scoring nearly 98 per cent," he added.
"Many government school students are cracking seats in engineering and medical courses. Parents are tension-free as they know that the future of their kids is secure," he said.

The Chief Minister said that the new Delhi Board of School Education will fulfil three objectives:
- The first goal of education is to prepare children as staunch patriots who have a passion to serve their nation. They can take the responsibility to develop the country in every field including business, society and politics.
- The second goal will be to make students a good human by teaching them the qualities of equality and selfless attitudes towards others.
- The board will ensure that the students are self-dependent and after completing their studies they get good jobs for a secure future. The education system will emphasis on the understanding of subjects.
Talking about the working of the new board, CM Kejriwal said, "The assessment will be done throughout the year. The new board will provide quality education at the global level including international practicals with the help of high-end technology to develop students' personality."

Kejriwal stated that Delhi has nearly 1000 government and 1700 private schools which are affiliated with the CBSE board. During the 2021-22 session, around 20-25 government schools will be given the affiliation of the new board. In the next 4-5 years all schools in Delhi will gradually join this board.
He also informed that the Education Minister will govern the new board and an executive body will carry out its daily work. A CEO will preside over the executive body. Apart from Principals and teachers, experts will also join the board from education and business fields.
"I am very happy with the decision. The current education system is corrupted and to fix many problems this change was necessary," added Kejriwal.
