New Delhi: An anonymous call was received on Thursday night at the Delhi police control room threatening to assassinate Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Following the receipt of the call, police officials were on toes. A team from Delhi police put the call on surveillance.
Finally, the call was traced to a Karol Bagh area in New Delhi. During investigation, it was found to a crank call. A drunk youth whose name is Hemant had made the call from his cell phone. Police traced the location of the culprit on the basis of mobile surveillance and arrested him from Karol Bagh area.
The accused who is jobless for the past the last six years and suffering from alcohol use disorder, dialed up the Delhi PCR, issuing threats to assassinate Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
During the course of the investigation, it was found that the accused was the habitual offender and indulged in such activities often. The tone of the accused and the way he was talking gave enough hint to the policemen that the youth was drunk. The accused was arrested by the police from the Karol Bagh locality of New Delhi.
During the grilling of the accused Hemant, he confessed to the police that he did the act under the influence of alcohol. He was seeking apology from the police. Police registered a case against the youth and he was taken into custody. The police are probing the case further to find out if any conspiracy angle. The police have been scanning the call details of the accused.
