New Delhi: National President of the Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) and senior party leader KN Tripathi has accused the central government of looking for commissions in vaccine production.

He said that such a slow pace of vaccination and giving contracts to only two companies for its production raises doubts. He also added that the central government has other options to accelerate vaccine production in the country but the government is not implementing it despite repeated requests from the opposition. The way the slow pace of vaccination in the country is going, it will take many years to sustain the country and millions of lives will be lost. Amid such a situation, rapid production of vaccines is the only solution.

He added that in such a situation, the former Prime Minister of the country Manmohan Singh had advised the Central Government to include foreign companies in the production of vaccines, but instead of persuading them, the government asked the Union Health Minister for his advice. The mockery of this advice has resulted in corpses piling up in the last three months.

He accused the central government of not giving vaccine production contracts to other companies despite repeated calls from the opposition. He also highlighted that only two companies are producing and selling the vaccines to the states in the country. He added that it creates a doubt in the mind of the common people. The government, therefore, does not want to involve foreign and other Indian companies in the production of vaccines.
