Cases of Dengue, Malaria, Chikungunya rising in Delhi

Delhi is experiencing a rise in cases of malaria, dengue and chikungunya in the on-going monsoon season. Authorities have alerted all concerned and those not following guidelines are being fined.

New Delhi: Even as the country struggles to fight the Covid-19, the capital city has yet another health problem to deal with - and it's the vector-borne diseases (VBDs) such as dengue, chikungunya and malaria.

According to the latest report issued on August 10, the national capital has reported 45 and 35 cases of malaria and dengue respectively, while 23 cases of chikungunya have also reported.To check the spread of the vector-borne diseases here, over three lakh houses and five lakh water containers have been checked by the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), of which 1,541 have turned out to be positive for larvae-breeding. It has undertaken an intensive drive to check the rooftops, government and private buildings, hospitals, electrical sub-stations, police stations, markets and residential colonies in all its 14 circle areas to control the spread of dengue, malaria and chikungunya. Over 23 thousand households have also been issued notices for not following the instructions issued to deal with the vector-borne diseases.
