Hyderabad: Kanta Prasad, the owner of 'Baba Ka Dhaba'(बाबा का ढाबा) eatery in Delhi, who had shot to fame last year after a YouTuber highlighted octogenarian's grim financial condition, attempted suicide and was admitted to Safdarjung Hospital last night, police said. According to DCP South Atul Thakur, he had brought in unconscious after he consumed alcohol and sleeping pills and a statement was recorded from his son.
While speaking to the media, Badami Devi, wife of Kanta Prasad, said she is unaware of all the things. She was at home when someone informed her about the incident. Meanwhile, Azad, son of Mr Prasad, said that the doctor has told him that he is on ventilator support.
Prasad, who became a social media sensation last year, had opened a new restaurant in Malviya Nagar after he got huge donations from across the country. However, the continuous lockdown forced him to shut the new restaurant that he had opened in December 2020, owing to losses. He said that his old eatery is more profitable since the investment and maintenance cost is less and he makes good profits.
Suicide is not a solution: Baba to ETV Bharat
In a conversation with ETV Bharat earlier, he had said, "I have to get someone to assist me since I can't say no to my customers. At this age, I can't do everything alone. Earlier, I used to struggle to sell 750 grams of rice but now I sell 5 kgs rice in half a day." Kanta Prasad had said then that suicide is not the option or solution for any problem rather people should struggle to find their way out through difficulties.

'I will run this Dhaba till I am alive'
Prasad, in an interview with a news agency, said he has still Rs 20 lakhs left for his future. "I will run this Dhaba till I am alive. The day business sees a slump, I will shut it. We have kept Rs 20 lakhs for me and my wife from the money we received as donations last year," he added.

Gaurav Wasan recently met 'Baba ka dhaba owner'
YouTuber Gaurav Wasan, who played a key role in uplifting Prasad's standard of living and improving his economic status, only to get accused by the latter of misappropriating funds, said: "Nothing in this world is above Karma." This year, following the second wave of Covid-19, Prasad had to again shut down his original eatery.
