IRCTC to run two more Tejas trains

Indian Railways has decided that IRCTC will run the Ahmedabad-Mumbai Central Tejas Express and the Delhi-Lucknow Tejas Express as test cases. The move is a part of Indian Railways' 100-day action plan and this is the first step towards the plan.

New Delhi: As part of its move to hand over certain trains to private players, the railways has decided that IRCTC will run the Ahmedabad-Mumbai Central Tejas Express and the Delhi-Lucknow Tejas Express as test cases, sources said on Tuesday.

The fare structure of these trains will be decided by the IRCTC and will run six days a week.

Ahd-Mum, Del-Lko Tejas trains to be handed over to IRCTC

According to a blueprint prepared by the Railway Board to hand over the two trains to the railways' tourism and catering arm for a period of three years as a pilot project, no concessions, privileges or duty passes will be allowed on these trains.

The railways also said on-board ticket checking will not be done by the railway staff on IRCTC trains.

However, it said the trains will be uniquely numbered and operated by the railways' operating staff -- loco, pilots, guards and station masters.

Presently, these two trains have been handed over to IRCTC as a pilot project for an initial period of 3 years, which can be extended on mutual consent.

According to sources, the services of these two trains will be at par with Shatabdi Express trains and will be given a similar priority.

Bringing in private train operators to provide world-class passenger service was a proposal mooted by the railways in its 100-day plan.

According to reports, the handing over of the two Tejas Express trains to IRCTC was a first step towards the plan.

Intro:New Delhi: Under 100 days Action Plan, the Ministry of Railways has granted approval to Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) for running two Tejas Express on the route of Lucknow to Delhi and Ahmedabad to Mumbai.




Body:Indian Railways has decided to hand over two rakes of these Tejas class trains to operate on Haulage Charge principle. Currently, these two trains have been handed over to IRCTC as a Pilot project for an initial period of 3 years, which can be extended on mutual consent.

The new Tejas Express from Lucknow to Delhi will departure at 06:10 in the morning from Lucknow Junction and will reach New Delhi Railway Station at 12:25, while passing via Kanpur and Ghazibad. In its return journey, the train will departure from New Delhi at 16:30 and reach Lucknow Junction at 22:45. If everything goes well, this train is expected to start plying by the end of September.

Train on the route of Ahmedabad to Mumbai will departure at 06:40 from Ahmedabad Railway Station and will reach Mumbai Central at 01:10. This train has stoppages on Baroda and Surat. On its return journey, it will departure from Mumbai Central at 15:40 and will reach Ahmedabad at 21:55.




Conclusion:These trains will run on a schedule of six days a week. IRCTC has given full flexibility to decide the fares to be charged from passengers and no concessions or duty passes will be allowed on these trains. This will be the first step towards introduction of 'private' trains on the network.
