Rajnandgaon (Chhattisgarh): Though weddings in India are known for their grandeur, a family from Chhattisgarh's Rajnandgaon wants their son's wedding to chart a new green course for the planet.
In a novel approach, the Srivastava family is sending out hand-written wedding invites to each of their guests - but what makes the cards extremely special, are the tiny paper packets attached to them.
Each paper pack contains six tree seeds - both of fruit and shade varieties.
Talking about the eco-friendly idea, the groom's father Aamod Srivastava said, "My son Aakash is getting married on June 25. We wanted to take a step towards ozone layer preservation. Hence, we decided to attach seeds with each card."
"We have sent out 350 cards till now, but I am constantly getting calls from people, who are now saying that they just want the seeds, regardless of whether they actually get the card. I will definitely get more seeds and send them out with the cards," he added.
Srivastava further said that each individual should try and plant at least 5 saplings during their lifetime. "This would be the best gift for our future generations," he said.
