Surguja: A young man, struck by lightning, has died in the district after the locals tried to treat his injury by burying him in a cow dung pit. When the young man's condition did not recover, he was taken to the hospital, but by then the young man had died.

The 35-year-old Kishun Ram Rajawada got struck by lightning around 3 pm on Tuesday at Gram Panchayat Mutki under Lakhanpur block. The man was outside the house, trying to remove the accumulated water in the courtyard and was cleaning the blocked drain. Suddenly he was hit by lightning and fainted in the courtyard.

Locals gathered around the house and village elders suggested the young man be buried in a cow dung pit. They put his body under a thick layer of cow dung. However, when the villagers failed to revive the youth, they called the 108 ambulance service and later admitted the injured to the Community Health Center Udaipur for treatment, where he died.
