Man who attempted suicide in front of Chhattisgarh CM's house succumbs

A man (27), who had tried to self-immolate in front of Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel’s official residence in Raipur on June 29, succumbed to his burn injuries at a private hospital on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the state government had ordered a magisterial probe into the case.

Dhamtari (Chhattisgarh): A man, who sustained burn injuries after attempting self-immolation in front of Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel’s residence on June 29, passed away on Tuesday night.

The deceased has been identified as Hardev Sinha (27) of Telinsatti village in Dhamtari district.

According to sources, The incident took place on July 29 in front of CM Baghel's residence when Sinha had tried to self-immolate. But the security and police personnel doused the fire and rushed him to the hospital with more than 50 per cent burn injuries.

Initially, the man was admitted to Raipur’s Dr BR Ambedkar Memorial hospital. Later, he was shifted to a private hospital as his health condition deteriorated, sources said.

On Tuesday night, the youth died and the post-mortem examination was carried out on Wednesday morning. The deceased's body was sent to his native place in Dhamtari district, police sources said.

However, the state government swiftly came up with a statement indicating that the youth, identified as Hardev Sinha, was mentally unstable and his brother was also suffering from a similar mental condition.

Speaking to media persons, local MLA, Ranjana Sahu said, "Hardev Sinha had reached chief minister’s residence on June 29 afternoon to seek some help but when he wasn’t allowed inside, he self himself ablaze and succumbed to his injuries today."

“The family of Sinha was suffering from an acute financial crisis due to which he was very worried. He is not mentally unstable. He was trying to meet the CM to say his problems," she said.

Sharad Lohana, Congress leader, said any unemployed youth’s death is an unfortunate incident and the state government stands by the deceased’s family in their hour of grief.

Meanwhile, the state government had ordered a magisterial probe into the case.
