Jagdalpur: Soldiers deployed in Bastar district of Chhattisgarh are continuously facing a dual challenge of combating Naxalism threat in the state along with completing the developmental projects in the remote areas.

Naxalism has affected generations since the last four decades in several districts of Chhattisgarh. Scanty roads and poor communication have marred the development of the Bastar region. The region has lost its cultural significance amid the menace of Naxalism.

However, the security forces have been so far successful in laying down a network of about 700 kilometres of roads leading to small villages including the main roads in the Bastar region. The most important among these is the road which was completely destroyed by the Naxalites about 20 years ago, putting an end to the intercommunication service to this area.

The road connects Barsoor in Dantewada district mainly through the dense forests of Narayanpur, making it easy to commute towards Dantewada, Bastar, Bijapur, Narayanpur etc. Along with this, it directly used to connect Rajnandgaon to Bastar via Narayanpur to Bhanupratappur, but due to the Naxalites, the movement from here got stopped completely.

The road's construction has started once again after 20 long years. According to the police department, the construction of this road will be completed by the end of this year. The road is about 130 kilometers long and in the coming years will prove to be the lifeline for millions of people of these 5 districts.

According to Bastar Inspector General of police, the construction of these roads will help in keeping a check on Naxalite activities, along with this the local villagers will be benefited.
