Raipur: Allegations and counter-allegations are on among leaders of the ruling Congress and the BJP after the saffron party's local leader Ganga Pandey was allegedly found involved in the inter-state human trafficking.

Politics hots up over human trafficking

Till a few days ago, both the political parties were targeting each other for not doing enough to check the crime.

Pandey, a mother of three, was suspended from the party after being arrested from the Pandari area of the capital.

Attacking the BJP, Agriculture Minister Ravindra Chaubey has said that anyone found guilty in the case would not be spared.

He termed it a "very serious crime" and said such acts would not be tolerated in Chhattisgarh.

Choubey said that the BJP has failed to keep check its leaders even if former chief minister Raman Singh had demanded a judicial 0inquiry into the incident.

Meanwhile, Dongargarh Police have arrested 4 people on the charges of human trafficking.

It is being alleged that Pandey was a local facilitator of the human trafficking gang. It has also been found out that that the gang involved in the crime used to send and receive women through a chain of criminals in various states.

The matter came to light as the police were investigating the case of a 21-year-old married woman, who went missing from Dongargarh. Police found out that she was sent to Haryana. Later, the victim was rescued by the police from a bordering area in Rajasthan.

Pandey has revealed that many people were involved in the crime who would target poor girls and women from states like Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Haryana.

Commenting on the situation, senior BJP MLA and former cabinet minister Brijmohan Agrawal said that strict action is needed in such cases, irrespective of party affiliation.

"The government needs to act tough against such people by rising above politics. People with a criminal mindset must be punished," he said.

Social activist Gautam Bandhopadhyay also expressed similar views, saying that action should be taken against people involved in crimes like this.

He said human trafficking has been going on in Chhattisgarh for a long time and it was high time that the government do something about it.
