Rohtak (Haryana): Several migrant labourers from Bihar, who moved to Haryana's Rohtak in search of work, have a unique offer for political parties. They have promised to vote for the leader who arranges their return to their home state.

Though many such migrants desire to return to Bihar to exercise their franchise in the upcoming state Assembly elections, they do not have enough money to make the long journey back home.

Further, with the coronavirus pandemic affecting businesses all over, work is extremely hard to come by, leading to further financial distress for the migrant labourers.

Hence, the labourers have said they would vote for the party which bears their travel expenses.

"We are currently surviving on the little money we had brought from home. If someone takes us back home, we will definitely vote for him," said Mohammed Khushboor, a migrant labourer from Bihar.

Echoing similar views, another labourer from Bihar currently in Rohtak, Mohammed Nizam, said, "We were helpless, had to come here in search of work. Now we cannot go back. If any leader is ready to sponsor our trip to Bihar, we will definitely vote for him."

Sunil Kumar, another labourer who had come to Rohtak from Darbhanga, said the COVID lockdown has added to their miseries, and they were eager to return home.

"We were stuck due to the lockdown. If we get work, we survive. On days when there is no work to be found, we sleep hungry," he said.

"Now that it is election time, if some party is ready to take us home, we will vote for them," he added.
