Bihar Polls: Muscleman’s first love is JDU's richest candidate

There is an obvious mark of power and pelf on Bihar’s 2020 Assembly polls. The JDU has fielded Manorama Devi from Atari assembly seat. Very few people, however, know that her father was a truck driver. Today she has properties worth around Rs 90 crore.

Patna: The first phase voting of Bihar assembly election is scheduled for October 28. The candidates in the fray for the first phase of polling have already filed their nomination papers. As per the affidavits, Manorama Devi, JDU candidate from Atari, is the richest candidate among all who are in the fray in the first phase of polling.

Manorama Devi is in the news for many reasons. It is, therefore, important to know why she is on everyone’s lips in Atari and adjoining areas. She is the wife of Bindeshwari Yadav alias Bindi Yadav, a known muscleman of his area. He died recently due to the coronavirus.

In the election affidavit filed to the poll panel, Manorama Devi has revealed that she has properties worth Rs 89.77 crore. It consists of Rs 44.77 crore movable properties and Rs 45 crore immovable properties. However, in the affidavit which she filed in the 2015 State Council poll, she had admitted to have properties worth Rs 12.24 crore.

According to information, Manorama Devi’s father was a truck driver. It is said that he was originally from Punjab. He married the daughter of a Dhaba owner. After their marriage, they bought a piece of land in Gaya and settled in the city itself. It is said that when Manorama was studying, Bindeshwari Yadav, a muscleman of the area, fell in love with her. Finally, the two got married in 1989.

As per the experts, Bindeshwari Yadav used to be close to Lalu Prasad Yadav. With the change of power equations in Bihar, Yadav also moved towards green pasture and got close to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. After this, Yadav got his wife Manorama Devi elected as an MLC from the JDU.

Bindeshwari Yadav passed away recently after he was hit by the coronavirus. However, the clout of Manorama Devi remains intact. Her son Rocky Yadav is serving a jail sentence in the in a famous road rage case of Gaya. It is worth mentioning the police had also raided Manorama Devi’s house and had recovered a large amount of liquor after which she too had to go to jail.
