'Bihar govt doesn't have exact data of unorganised labourers': Vijay Sinha

Bihar Labour Resources Minister Vijay Sinha said that it is unfortunate that the government does not have an exact figure of the labourers in the unorganised sectors. He also said that financial assistance is being provided to them by depositing the amount in their respective bank accounts.

Patna: Amid the nationwide lockdown imposed to curb the cases of COVID-19 infection, the biggest challenge being faced by the state governments is to look after the migrant labourers and daily wagers who are returning from different cities to their home towns.

Bihar Labour Resources Minister Vijay Sinha while speaking to ETV Bharat said that the Bihar government does not have the exact figure of the labourers in the unorganised sector.

"The government is trying to take all the possible steps to protect the interests of those workers. Efforts are being made to identify them and provide them all the assistance," the minister added.

The minister also said that for the labourers who are stuck in other states, financial assistance is being provided to them by depositing the amount in their respective bank accounts. "Money has been deposited in the accounts of more than one lakh workers. Relief camps are also being setup in other states. The Bihar government has sent financial assistance of of rupees one thousand per person to the account of 1,03,579 people trapped in other states," he added.

Vijay Sinha further said that Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is constantly monitoring the cases of COVID-19. He said that it is unfortunate that we do not have a comprehensive data of the workers in unorganised sector, however, the government is constantly aiming at working for the betterment of the labourers and workers.
