No alliance with AIUDF, says APCC president

A news of a possible alliance between Congress and AIUDF are doing the rounds in Assam but Congress ruled out any pre-poll alliance with Badruddin Ajmal led All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF).

New Delhi: The Congress on Thursday ruled out any pre-poll alliance with Badruddin Ajmal led All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF).

"There is no alliance with the AIUDF. They are not getting strong candidates so they (AIUDF) are spreading the rumour of an alliance with Congress," said Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president Ripun Bora after the CEC meeting at 10 Janpath.

Our party high command will announce the name for the remaining candidates, Bora added.

Interestingly news of a possible alliance between Congress and AIUDF are doing the rounds in Assam.

Congress is yet to announce its candidates for four more Lok Sabha seats in Assam including Guwahati, Barpeta, Dhubri and Kokrajhar.

Interstingly immediately after the meeting at 10 Janpath that ends at around 7 p.m., the APCC president was again called in by party high command for another meeting that continued for 15 minutes. Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Debabrata Saikia was also present in the meeting.

Sources said that there is no consensus over the names of candidates in these four seats. however, hinted of a possible "backdoor" alliance with AIUDF, following the fact that AIUDF has understanding with Congress at central level.
